XBonifacio Alfonso Gómez Fernández, the painter from San Sebastian, died less than a year ago (1933-2011). His is still not known nor studied enough. He cries out for a major retrospective to unravel the many mysteries of the varied stages of his career. He is one of the last Baroque storytellers of Spanish abstract expressionism.
The idea behind this humble homage to Bonifacio, which we are organising together with the Marita Segovia Gallery, is to remember a painter who was fundamental to the Juana Mordó gallery; a man who lived in Cuenca for a number of years from the 1970’s onwards, who was a friend of Fernando Zóbel and José Guerrero, of Manolo Mompó and most of all of Antonio Saura. Little has been done so far to remember this artist who is so diverse.
