EYES THAT DO NOT SEE...

Within the next year our gallery in the Calle Orellana will celebrate its tenth birthday. We all have got a bit older since then. The idea that an artist is bound to a gallery (and vice-versa) seems to me an absurd one. A gallery owner should not feel obliged to organise exhibitions of his artists’ works every two or three years. Instead, I feel that it is only worth continuing the work of a gallery if all its projects make sense, convey a particular message, if there is that necessary tension present that inspires us to continue. Well, the factors that inspired us to take on the “Eyes that do no see” project include the immense physical and mental work that Miguel Ángel Barba has invested in his fabrics – “real martyrdom” according to him, as well as the connection the project has with the inclusive art project “Despintando”. “Despintando is the brainchild of Raquel Calvo and was started two years ago in the “Infantas de España” Centre in Cuenca. She, together with Barba, realised that drawing, painting and colour could all help those with certain disabilities. This well-timed exhibition by Miguel Ángel Barba comes together by showing his “Líneas” series, the work of the past five years, together with the drawings by the members of the “Despintando” workshops. Has it been worth it?
