TEN YEARS
We would like to pay tribute to Joan Hernández Pijuan on the 10th anniversary of his death, remembering also the opening of our gallery in Calle Orellana. The first exhibition we organized here was with him. This show recognises one of the great European artists of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Ten years after he passed away, we want to pay this well-deserved tribute to Pijuan, an artist who searched for a personal language throughout his career – a language that finally found him. He became a prime example of Spanish painting of the 1990’s until his death in 2005, and his work accurately reflects his typical permanent contemporariness, his precision, and his Mediterranean spirit. When future historians and future generations study JHP's work from a broader perspective, we are sure that they will discover new aspects in his work that will give greater relevance to the context of his contemporaries. Hernández Pijuan is a painter of simplicity, imperfection and spontaneity. Sometimes by bringing all of these elements together there comes a truly complete synthesis, which merges with the mysticism that appears immersed in the tremendous sensuality of his painting.
