In this edition of the ESTAMPA 2021 fair we present a single project by the painter Julián Gil (Logroño, 1939). The Plegados series, produced in 1971, were the result of Julián Gil's efforts to break with the academic teachings and approaches to the representation of life. But the "folding games" began some time before, folding metro and bus tickets, receipts and other small pieces of paper. The artist's first contact with flat, three-dimensional structures occurred spontaneously. This process was the key that facilitated the leap towards the abandonment of copying or interpreting reality and marked the beginning of a new geometric-concrete creation.

The painter Julián Gil has worked for decades on his geometric-concrete creations. These have never lost their validity, even serving as inspiration for future generations of abstract artists. One of the main Spanish exponents of concrete art, and still active, he began his studies in 1954 at the Escuela de Artes y Oficios in Logroño and in 1958 he continued his training at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid.
